(Topic B: The Improvisation of Spiritual Free Jazz)
As a visionary composer and the founder of Artists for Humanity, Grand Gongmaster Don Conreaux—a legendary figure in the global gong movement—proclaimed his first three sound healing prophecies during a Millennium Concert held in collaboration with the Museum of Sound Recording at the Rogers & Hammerstein Opera Housefrom September 19 to 21, 1997:
- The rise of collective sound healing
- Improvised Free Spirit Jazz will become mainstream
- Songs of transformation will echo through the skies
Don Conreaux’s extensive Holistic Resonance Sound Healing system unifies vocal and instrumental traditions from around the world, integrating a wide range of resonant instruments, including:
- Gongs
- Singing bowls
- Indian shruti boxes and vocal chanting (shruti chanting)
- Overtone singing
He skillfully weaves in deeply penetrating folk and ceremonial instruments, such as:
- Conch shells
- Tingsha cymbals
- Shamanic drums
- Native American flutes
- Peruvian water whistles
- Didgeridoos
- Ocean drums, rainsticks, and elemental wind chimes
- African hand drums, and more.
Don’s teachings outline three core elements of sound healing for the New Age:
- Collective Healing
- Improvisational Musical Creation
- Consciousness-Transforming Sound Therapy

Grand Gongmaster Don Conreaux, formerly known as Baba Don and Guru Jagat, holds a Master’s degree in Dramatic Arts from New York University. In his early years, he studied Kriya Yoga within the spiritual community founded by Paramahansa Yogananda, known as the Self-Realization Fellowship.
Don developed his own innovative gong striking techniques, uniquely tailored to meet both the needs of gong sound healing and gong performance art. His contributions include methods for both suspended and handheld gongs.
In the realm of performance art, Don introduced techniques such as:
- Rolling strikes on suspended gongs
- Striking the gong while facing away
- Singing and dancing in unison with the gong
- Chanting while playing
- Thunder strike method
- Synchronization method
For handheld gongs, he created:
- The Running Gong
- The Ninja Gong
- The Ascetic’s Gong
- The Healing Spiral Gong, among others
These styles are especially suitable for gong concerts and gong theatre performances.

Training Days 4 & 5 (May 7–8): Group Creative Process – Scriptwriting & Rehearsal
These two days mark the collaborative phase of the training, during which students will break into groups to co-create choreography, musical compositions, and original performance scripts.
Following Don Conreaux’s principles of improvisational performance art, participants will be encouraged to generate their own ideas for movement, music, and staging—then, without written scores, engage in intuitive group resonance through spontaneous telepathic synchrony.
At the heart of this creative process are the Esraj (Indian poetic violin) and spoken word/poetic chant, which serve as the soulful thread weaving each piece together.
In addition, participants will attend a 4-hour masterclass titled:
“Inner Sacred Voice Exploring”,
led by veteran gong performance artists Alicija and Ricard.
This special session guides participants in:
- Awakening the throat chakra
- Discovering and expressing the inner voice
- Resonating in harmony with various instruments
- Embodying the role of a vocalist, singer, and chant artist on stage
As Don Conreaux reminds us:
“You are the Gong. I am the Gong. Our body is the ultimate resonating chamber for sound healing.”
This is the essence of our innate healing potential—when the human voice merges with the instruments, true alchemy occurs.
